Many would agree, there is something special about the love of a sister. As it turns out, even science agrees! The Journal of Family Psychology published a 2010 article citing research that having a sister boosts your mental health and self-esteem, even eases feelings of loneliness, guilt, self-consciousness, and fear. The study went on to say that those with a sister tend to be kinder and more generous than those without. The study compared the answers from 395 families over a series of years. Researchers concluded that the sisterly impact was so great because siblings are a constant in people’s lives, even though parents may pass away, or spouses come later on in life, a sibling is with you, usually throughout each season of life.
It didn’t take a study for Charlotte Nowels, LaWanna Gainer, and Mary Lynn Neal, to understand the benefit of having a sister in your life. The sibling trio have quite literally seen each other through every phase of development and are now sharing in their retirement years as well, each living at PineCrest in Lufkin. However, in this season of life they aren’t worried about their sister borrowing their clothes without asking or hogging the bathroom, instead, they enjoy the many perks of sisterhood with familiar companions only a few steps away.
