Floyd Marsellos, turning 98 this summer, enjoys his lifestyle as a resident living at PineCrest. Marsellos is an accomplished architect, artist, novelist and a poet. He grew up on Long Island but says he made it to Texas as soon as he could. He also served our country in World War II in the Navy Air Corps. Marsellos recently published a book, Once I had a Garden, which holds the bulk of his poetry collection. “This little book has poems, among other items, written (sporadically) over the last 65 years” explained Marsellos.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, pray for me
With words too deep to say,
Reveal the light I cannot see
Because,
I don’t know how to pray.
I feel a wreck on a distant shore,
Apart from the light of day.
O, God I need you all the more,
Because,
I don’t know how to pray.
Holy Spirit, I’ve tried to free
My feet from the clinging clay.
But it seems it will not be
Unless,
You teach me how to pray.
Look
Don’t sell the stars,
Don’t paint the trees,
Don’t lock up love
And swallow the keys.
Don’t say, “I wish.”
Don’t say, “Too bad.”
Don’t tell anyone
What you’ve never had.
Look for those who need you most,
Look for God on Monday,
Look for diamonds in the dirt
And you will find some one day.
Don’t try to burn the oceans,
Make friends with Death today.
It can be warm in January,
It can also freeze in May.
